This is a VERY non traditional burger I adapted from "The Complete Low-Fat Cookbook" (Bay Books) which is a little sweet. They are so yummy! After I made them for the first time, we had to make them again for dinner later in the week. This recipe will make four large burgers. You could probably get 6 smaller burgers. The sweet chili sauce I found in the Asian foods section of my supermarket. If the regular grocery store doesn't stock it, someplace like Whole foods or an Asian supermarket probably will.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground chicken or turkey
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 4 green onions, sliced
- 1 tablespoon ground cilantro
- 1 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 3 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
- 1-2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons oil
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Mix the chicken and breadcrumbs in a large bowl.
- add the green onion, ground and fresh cilantro, chili sauce and lemon juice and mix well.
- Using damp hands, form the mixture into evenly shaped burgers. (Rachael Ray trick: Score the meat into 4 sections to ensure even burgers.)
- Heat the oil in a large non-stick frying pan and cook the burgers over high heat until browned all over.
- Drain well on paper towels and then place them on a baking tray and bake until cooke through (10-15 minutes).
Variation:
Instead of Burgers, make little meatballs and serve as an appetizer or starter. The mini balls will only take about 5 minutes in the oven.
Yum! Thanks for this recipes. I made it over the weekend for my mommy's birthday, and they were great! Everyone loved them.
