We got married in Indiana, PA and had our reception in Blairsville, PA about 20 minutes from our church. It is a beautiful, beautiful place. During the time of our reservation, there were many changes going on with management and such. This worried us a bit. But there ended up being nothing to worry about. We worked with Becky Wardlow, and she was great. She consistently made us feel like everything would be perfect. She answered all of our calls and emails promptly. She was able to handle my mom - which is HUGE. My mother is a big worrier, so you can imagine how she was before the wedding of her only daughter. My mom would tell me to ask Becky a question...and I'd call to find out my mom already called. Becky was great through all of it. Always smiling always on the ball. The rooms for our wedding were gorgeous. The food delivery was choreographed...although most of our guests probably missed it because they were having so much fun mingling around. The appetizers were superb. They took care of our cake (although our florist decorated it.) and it was beautiful and delicious. Becky worked with us to make sure our one vegetarian guest and our one glucose-free guest were well fed. Becky and other staff greeted the whole wedding party when we arrived at the Chestnut Ridge, and they brought a plate of appetizers and drinks to our holding room. And as everyone was announced, Becky and another staff member would pull open these great gold doors to the hall, and then close them. When it was our turn, Becky whispered, "When I give the signal, kiss! It'll look great on your video. Trust me." And of course, that is one of our favorite parts of our video! They really treated us well.
After the reception, I felt bad, because some of our less gracious guests made complaints about the food. There were just a couple complaints out of 200 guests who raved about our wedding. But my mom felt really pressured into saying something, even though she did not want to. Turns out, the picky people felt that their steak was overcooked or lobster was dry. Becky was very polite about it, but of course, what can you do? It's over, and truth be told...the majority of us, Bride and Groom included were thrilled with how things went. Ended up, she said that they didn't anticipate the speeches to be so long, so everything was kept warm for too long. Well, I buy it, because silly me thought our Best Man would give a five minute toast, and he gave a much longer one. :P So I do not fault the Chestnut Ridge for that!
